The High Holidays are the most important festivals of the Jewish year, and all Jews have their own memories of these special days. It’s a time to remember, a time to be with families, and a time to tell stories about past generations. And you don’t need to be Jewish to appreciate this, because the 21st century is a much smaller world, with many different faiths coming together. High Holiday Stories is filled with 101 heartfelt holiday remembrances, from famous people, and some only known in their own circle of family and friends. They recount varied Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur experiences, from observing the holiday in the Colorado Rockies to Army bases in Iraq, even online. The stories come from people of all ages, all professions, from New York to California, New Zealand to England.

It is now beyond doubt that a mole, implanted decades ago by Moscow Centre, has burrowed his way into the highest echelons of British Intelligence. His treachery has already blown some of its most vital operations and its best networks. It is clear that the double agent is one of its own. George Smiley is assigned to identify him. And once identified, the traitor must be destroyed. Lee Myers will facilitate the discussion. Space is limited, so please call to reserve your place.

In the spring of 1892 he set out west to cover twenty thousand miles over three continents as a correspondent for Outing magazine. Two years later, after having survived countless near disasters and unimaginable hardships, he disappeared in eastern Turkey. Herlihy's gripping narrative captures the soaring joys and constant dangers accompanying the bicycle adventurer in the days before paved roads and automobiles. This untold story culminates with efforts to bring Lenz's accused murderers to justice, even as troubled Turkey teetered on the edge of collapse.

Start: Sep 30 2010 - 7:00pm

Gladys Cailiff is eleven years old in 1938 when a new, well-traveled young schoolteacher turns a small Georgia town upside down. Miss Grace Spivey believes in field trips, Arabian costumes, and reading aloud from her ten-volume set of The Thousand Nights and a Night. The real trouble begins when she decides to revive the annual town festival as an exotic Baghdad bazaar, transforming the lives of everyone around her. Populated by unforgettable characters--including three impressive camels--The Cailiffs of Baghdad, Georgia rides a magic carpet from a segregated schoolroom in Georgia to the banks of the Tigris (and back again) in an entrancing feat of storytelling.
