Community Book Drives

Donate to local initiatives getting books to kids!

These local organizations have stepped up to deliver books to children in our community. The organizations are based in the communities they serve and are safely distributing books and activities to families. Children who have books of their own in their homes read earlier, better, more often and longer, and see benefits across their education (learn more about the benefits at FirstBook.org). An important new study notes the gender gap in education can be corrolated with the gender gap in reading!

The Bookworm is accepting donations on behalf of the following organizations and we extend a 20% discount to these organizations on their purchses, furthering the impact of your donation.

  • Westside Book Brigade. The Westside Book Brigade is serving the District 66 area providing books and activities to families. Since starting in April 2020, the Westside Book Brigade has distributed over 2,000 books and placed little lending libraries in all of District 66 elementary schools. Students may take books home, return them, keep them, and donate their own favorite books from home.
  • NorthStar At Home Reading Initiative. NorthStar’s mission is to change young men’s lives through programming that supports, challenges, inspires, and instills a life rooted in education, self-discipline and service to the community. Their program focuses on boys from 3rd to 5th grade, but provides books across ages and genders. https://northstar360.org/

  • Learning Community Center of South Omaha. This organization serves children 0-5 and their parents with a 2-generational approach to family literacy & learning.  We provide adult education through ESL, GED, and parent workshop classes, as well as support in the home that reinforces our belief that parents are their child’s first teacher. Our ultimate goal is to close the achievement gap in public schools, specifically the area we serve (South Omaha). Purchase a book off their wishlisthttps://learningcommunityds.org/programs/learning-community-south/
